  • I feel like I'm groping in the dark, not know what I'm doing wrong till I see it corrected. 3-4 separate things, but all boiling down to I like to do things right first time, just trying to get the rules.

I've uploaded images, trying to follow examples I've seen, and I see now I should not have been doing via the page I'm editing, but separately, with a {{MI}}, which you just have to know about.  Editing standards page doesn't have anything on how to name files, what templates to use or anything, and I don't know enough to without searching through all the unknown type templates, or what I'd be looking for when doing so. I feel like there probably is something similar for dialogue Icons. and I've not been putting "Snow Menu" for all the winter buildings and Icons I've uploaded images for.  No idea that was there, since I haven't really seen any kind of standards page, so that's a lot of going back and renaming images (if that's even possible), and putting in the MI description stuff for those images, and quite possibly something for the dialogue images (Almost should be, since digging through the photo search gets old, unless there is another trick I don't know).  Kinda want to know the rules before I go make a pass over all the pages I've done, so I'm correcting them the right way, once.

I saw you changed some of the personal prize unlock quests to "collect Festive Hats and Unlock X"  But the in-game text is just "Collect Festive Hats" and the value. I've actually never seen the game say "unlock"  So we are purposely not using in-game display on quest objects if is makes it clearer?  Should I continue to just follow in-game display and let you modify it where desired?

You mentioned in a commit post you were putting the infobox for a building to standard.  Which means there is a standard, just not out there, unless it is on some sandbox.  I've got a guideline I've put together from looking at recent pages, but having an actual one instead of guessing would me less rework.  (and on that note, the standard layout' infobox when you create a new page has a crazy order, image way after row 5, which is why I find it there a lot.)  Edit: after posting this, I saw your Model blog.  I have that bookmarked now, basically takes care of this issue.  Thank you.

I combined a bunch of the tutorial quests for the winter event into Gonna Find Out Who's Naughty or Nice before I saw there were 4 "The White Elephant in the Room" quests.  I can correct it to whichever way to go, just need to know what is desired.  I can rename the page to White Elephant, since that means 4 chain task is the main part, with a 2part pre-bit, and a single part at the end, or I can break White Elephant into a separate page.  Or break them all out into 3 pages (but that means very small quest pages, which I think we are trying to avoid doing too much of.)  Or leave it the way it is, I guess.  If I'd known about White Elephant pp.3-4, I would have named the page after that quest to begin with.

I know responding to this takes up your editing time, but if I've got better guidelines, hopefully my contributions will be more helpful, and end result should make things easier for you in the long run.

    • Just saw template CCI template for the dialogue icons.  No sub categories, so finding if one exists is still a hunt, esp. because the wiki search function shows lots of stuff if you use the Icon term, so best I've found is just a photo search for "Lisa" and I get lots of icons, and other stuff, and I can flip between them as necessary.  If there aren't any sub categories planned, tomorrow I'll go back over all the icons I uploaded in the last few days and just put the CCI template in.

At the moment FauxCerf and I are the only ones who actually have access to the actual images. It seems like you're screenshotting and Photoshopping/GIMPing/whatevering them. Until now we were always fast enough that no one had the idea to actually do this and thus no one needed to be informed about them. Atm we are both busy with real-life and thus it came to this situation.

If you want to continue doing it, you can, but honestly it's not worth the work. Due to technical limitations the quality is way below what the original files are and and it can be a lot of work doing it thoroughly. FauxCerf or me will replace them anyway!

Editing standards page doesn't have anything on how to name files, what templates to use or anything,

The standards haven't been updated in ages because of the lack of time and the reason explained above. It's unfortunate, but it can't be top priority :(

quite possibly something for the dialogue images (Almost should be, since digging through the photo search gets old, unless there is another trick I don't know)

If there aren't any sub categories planned

You already found this one by now...

The easiest way to do it is just typing the desired file-name directly in the page you're editing (in source-mode), e.g. [[File:Homer Sa.

You will get a list of possible images and it will be way better than the normal search. With that in mind I don't think subcategories are needed in this case.

and I've not been putting "Snow Menu" for all the winter buildings and Icons

FauxCerf just started that yesterday, so it's brand-new :)

I saw you changed some of the personal prize unlock quests to "collect Festive Hats and Unlock X" But the in-game text is just "Collect Festive Hats" and the value.

Can't say why he did it, but generally it should be like it is in-game.

Sometimes there isn't just one correct solution, and I think this is one of these occasions. We should probably add some redirects to that page (i.e. "The White Elephant in the Room" and "Festive Spontaneity... Scheduled", so that search returns the page directly as search-suggestion rather than in the full-text result. But other than that, I would leave the name as is.

    • Ok, so big message is relax, have patience, and also don't worry so much about images.  I'll still probably add some images as I add new content, just so it looks ok. And if I don't get things right on the first pass, it'll get cleaned up.  My training as a kid to have everything perfect crops up from time to time (like now), and then I get uptight when I don't know all the procedures.  I can also see how I'm definitely not the most efficient person to do graphic file uploads, as fun as cropping stuff can be.

Neat trick about typing first part of file name.  Only been an issue with icons for dialogue, but I'm realizing those dialogue boxes aren't my forte. I don't mind doing the dialogue, I could just do without figuring out which image/expression. Would it be better to have a generic "Lisa Icon" w/o expression or a name in the box to filled in by someone else later when putting new dialogue in (ie. image or text till someone with direct access makes a pass)?  If either is too much of a pain, I can leave dialogue to someone looking at a script instead of a screen shot. :)

Nice idea for the quests, I wasn't of redirects in that way, but makes good sense.  My wife's b-day is today, so I probably won't have much more time today, but I'll get those fixed up with redirects and more info on the page in the next day or so.

    • I'll upload all icons within the next 120 minutes... and read that thread to answer what's need to... til then....

    • Over the past few weeks I haven't been as lazy regarding the wiki as it might have seemed. Whenever I had a few minutes spare time I've been working on a little surprise and it got ready just in time.

What I now can do is generate quest- and dialogue-tables automatically in the format we need. So I can do quest-pages now really efficiently. Those two pages I just corrected/added dialogues today were the first test, but I will continue with the other ones tomorrow.

      Thanks!

Seems like I won't get to my usual computer anytime soon today, so I won't be able to do them today.

    • I like the idea of a script doing the dialogue.  The results looked pretty good to me, not sure how much of that was post script tweaking...  But if it works well, it could hit a lot of the old level quests where one icon was used for the whole thing, quickly and accurately. :)

    • I try to adjust the script and re-run it, rather than tweaking the output. But yes, there are some flaws (e.g. in some cases empty tables are produced) that need to be fixed. But there are also some other thing that probably can't be done properly: The image renaming we do here requires me to do some guesswork on how it has to be named exactly, so I can probably only cover around 99% of the image names.

Running it on all old quests is also what I had in mind. From a developer point of view there are always three or four ways to do the same thing in TSTO though. So I'm prepared that further work has to be done when using it large-scale.

    • Just using this thread....  FauxCerf, you locked editing on Patches and Poor Violet.  Locoquito and I have put in info on their 5+1 part quest A Tale of Two Orphans, but without edit privleges, we can't fill in the info for the character (first 2x fremium rate character...)  I normally only see you lock pages you are working on for a few hours, so I'm afraid you might have gotten distracted by the image upload task for NoWay....

    • FYI, you can figure out a lot about image naming by looking in the various categories under Category:Image listing Categories; most have a page describing what it's for and how its files should be named. Not as good as real docs, but better than nothing.
