  • Hi Steven, I was wondering if you had the unlock screens available from the characters and costumes from the Homerpalooza 2017 Event since most of them appear to be missing from the wiki.

    • They also didn't add any categories, so watch for that as well when you're adding or reviewing new images. It's a lot easier to get them right up front when doing a multiple upload, which is why I try to get new images first, but I've been a bit slow this year.

    • I didn't realise about the multiple upload option until recently. It has been useful with uploading images of the same groups at the same time. At least with images you can go to an image and add the categories after it has been uploaded.

  • Nice to see you active again! We need all the help we can get :)

Regarding the Category:Unknown Character Collection: Most of them seem to be older costumes. Those generally didn't belong to a character collection, at least the ones released before the Stonecutters 2014 Event (I think). Anyway, I'll go through them and verify it when I've got some time.

    • Eh, work got nuts, and when I had free time again, I got obsessed with another online project. Without Wikia's (or I guess Fandom's now) periodic notices about pages changing, I'd have probably forgotten about this one.

I thought so on the collections, but since I can't figure out any way to confirm that fact, I figured it was best to just create a maintenance category and let someone else figure out what to do. Sometimes noticing a problem is just as important as actually fixing it. I did visit every single character page and fix other collection issues along the way, so it's not like that's all I did in that pass. I get sort of obsessive that way; if I can't finish a task in one sitting, I need a way to know where to pick back up when I return to it--sometimes weeks later. That's why I mentioned that about the auto-cat for the infoboxes. I can't say exactly when it'll be, but I'll knock out a hundred-plus per sitting when I get in that mode.

  • I was noticing that the Big Game Supplies 2016 Promotion has the Template:Updates, which has all the info from the navebox templates for Events, Promotionals, Levels, etc, but are completely separate. I was wondering if we can somehow combine those so we don't have to update 2 templates every content update (Updates, and the sub-category). My ideal would be something like Template:Events calls Template:Updates, but sets state = uncollapsed for the Events group; same for the other update templates. That means for each new update, we just need to update Template:Updates, and we are adding 4 lines at the bottom of the page, but allowing quick links to the other updates, which can be very handy when 2 are going on at the same time, like when Much Apu About Nothing was at the end of Winter 2015 at the same time.

I'm not sure how to use a Template reference for each group, where you could change the state field from a higher call. I'm hoping for something like Template:Events to ideally be something like {{Template:Updates|List1 state=uncollapsed}} or something, but that means having a parameter passing in Navbox with collapsible groups, which I'm not seeing in there right now, and I'm not confortable even trying to attempt it. I need to do some Hello World type passing templates first. Thought I'd run it by you if even worth exploring.

We could even do something like this for Decorations/Buildings/Facades (since we have a number that seem like one but are the other, and the upgradable Winter attractions were decorations until fully upgraded, then became buildings, so people might be looking in one area and not see it....

Side note: why does Category:Navbox Templates show Astronaut Barney, Kamp Bart (quest chain), and Paris Texan?? I can't figure out why that would be, and there isn't a call on any of those pages, so they have to be transcluded somehow, but I can't see it... The only thing I can tell is that they were all edited recently. Looking at my edits, it shows adding the category Navbox Templates, but I didn't mess with any templates.......

    • I need a syntax highlighter, lol.  I used to never have one, but I've gotten so use to them, that not having one set up is hampering me.  I think I'll start putting one together for my text editor...   And now re-think the back to drawing board bit on combining the navboxes.....

Still need to consider vertical space (how many subsets to put in, 20-group max or no).  Because unless I understood wrong, you can only put the collapsable bit at the top level.  So if we have one huge navbox of Tiles / Buildings / Decorations / possibly Facades (but that might be part of "buildings"), then opening up decorations goes from 4 lines to having 100+ lines (1 for each event and then all the levels) that can't be further closed down, it still becomes unmanagable quickly.   And in reality, it puts it all there, then collapses it...

    • You can use {{Navbox with collapsible groups}} as a child too, but I doubt you'll be happy with the result. See here (group 2) for an example.

We might be able to improve that a bit with some CSS tricks on the subgroup navbar coloring, but IMHO the usability would still leave a lot to be desired.

  • Categorization on the Currency templates is nice, dang there are 5 pages of them...   However, when you put the <noinclude>[[Category:Currency templates]]</noinclude> in the templates, you put them on a new line after the code. Since the new line character is before the noinclude tag, it moves the new line into the actual template. Which means they have added a lot of white space to the jobs tables, since the value is now being put after a new line after those images. I've fixed a few on pages I'm hitting, but I'd appreciate it if you could go back and remove the new lines, basically the noinclude goes on the same line as the File tag. I think you've already caught it on some of them.

If it's on your to-do, and this is a nag, I apologize, and I've already hit the Winter 2015 currencies.

  • You are adding the template to the top of pages, and so it takes up 2 lines, pushing all content down.  Except, selecting other languages doesn't actually take the user to the secondary language pages, everything is still displayed in English, only a few Edit buttons and such.  I'm assuming it is supposed to take you to the sub-page.  Did I miss something?  Because otherwise, they use up 2 lines of prime real estate, for nothing.....

    • Ok, I started something way bigger than I expected before I went home sick yesterday.  Most of the complex stuff I haven't studied enough to really be able to comment on.  I can say that even the mw-collapsible on mobile is iffy.  The only collapsable features on mobile seem to be infoboxes and headers.  On the Android Tapped out Wiki app (why they have a separate app for each wiki is kinda beyond me, esp. since the Apple version is just one app, and the stuff is basically another browser, really) anything in a collapsible code doesn't show, at all.

If I can figure out how to find all the non-english pages, I can bring the job tables and stuff up to date, since I've scripted that.  Doesn't take long at all.  Is it worth it? No idea.  Heck, no idea how to even begin evaluating it.  All the data we'd need to really have an idea how often it get used, or how many people would want it isn't really available to us (and if it is, really? where?)  Or if it is worth the effort, with all the new browser plugins that machine translate with semi-decent or semi-decent/semi-laughable results.

I think without a major influx of consistant editors in the other languages, even one other language, we really can't be much more than an English only wiki. Since I've joined this fall, I've seem maybe 10-20 editors that are steady or semi-steady.   That's really not a lot of manpower, just for the main pages....

I found a source that fixed the template to use mw-collapsible, and now all the new navboxes here collapse correctly. Thanks for the hint!
