  • Shouldn't the quest chain have its own page rather than putting that detail (thanks btw) on the decoration's page? I think I've seen a few examples of a separate quest chain page with the same name as whatever item started it.

    • Yeah, that's how most of the level premium characters are up to level 32, most of the event premium characters until mid-2013, most of the Squidport buildings, and Krustylu Studios.

    • FauxCerf has been trying to not make small quest pages, instead putting them on the same page as the item that generates it.  I was trying to follow that example, but it took me a while to get to Police Tank.  I'm frustrated with the same page names for 2 different thngs, so that you have to see (quest series) or whatever in the pagename (means you can't use PAGENAME template for stuff, and it looks clunky at the top of the page and when doing the search autofill).  Since it was only 4 part quest chain, and the same name as the decoration, and because the destroy building bit would have to be described on the decoration, and again on any separate quest page, I just put them all on the same page.

If the questline had had a different name from the Police Tank, I would have proabably made a separate quest page, while grumbling that I'd have to describe the building destruction bit twice, and making sure each catered to the person probably going to that page over the other, covering what they need, but not misleading on the overall picture.  And with the ":" disambiguation type bit at the top of the pages, which I prefer to avoid if possible.

Once I figure out where Squidport one-off quests go in the tabber breakdown (I'm really leaning to making an "Expansion's QB" category, since it would fit very nicely there - just waiting for FauxCerf to come back to discuss it with him), I'm hoping to go back over Squidport one-offs, and combining them with the building, like the Winter 2015 prizes, etc, with the old quest pages becoming redirects to the combined page (the building page).

  • That's a clever way to display the year headers in {{Characters}}, but FYI, as soon as NoWay gets the site CSS updated (see Thread:94561), I'll switch them all to {{Navbox with collapsible groups}} and uncomment the existing group titles. So, don't invest much effort in them in the meantime.

    • Unless you tell it otherwise, {{Navbox with collapsible groups}} starts with all the groups collapsed; I just need the new CSS loaded so I can switch to that and uncomment the groups.

    • Stephen, the groupings all get their own spacing betwwen header I guess and list.  After Spuckler Brood it jumps out, jumps back in for Robots, then in again at THOH 23, etc.  It's all how you've nested the groups to get around the 20 group maximum in the Navbox template.  When you put Deep Space Homer in a separate group, it made it set up header/list by itself, and so looked really weird.  In hindsight, so did my years stuff.  It still looks kinda weird, but the way you've moved DSH into the 2015 group looks a lot better, and doesn't make it glaringly weird.  all the jump back and forth for the sub groupings is just a function of current coding, and just really needs to be accepted until NoWay's overhaul.  Once we get a few more 2016 events in there, putting them in their own group will look less like something got incorrectly done, and more like a quirk of the current boxes.  Or the Navbox with collapsible groups with the headers would work too.

I did a hack cause it looked weird.  In hindsight, I should have just posted a note to your wall, or moved DSH into 2015's with a comment, instead of getting "creative". especially on a template that affects so many pages.

  • I saw you created a few of the missing façade pages; thanks! If you're going to do the rest sometime soon, you can add all the links to the template and events pages and then create the targets; new content is an explicit exception to the no-redlink rule.

Also, do you know if the Flanders one is really "Home" (as the page is named) rather than "House"? I never got that one, so I can't check myself.

    • I finished all the Facades from the Returing content for Winter 2015.  I was just trying to finish out that page.  The older stuff gets harder to find if you don't have access to it personally.  There are more from Winter 2014 that weren't re-released in 2015, but considering how hard it was to find good images for the 2015 re-releases, and how much digging I'd have to do for basic info, I was planning on leaving them alone for another day.

For 2014 there is missing a Facade for Lard Lad Donuts, Wiggum House (as new content), and a bunch of Colored houses, Willie's Shack, etc. as returing content.  A lot to tackle that I don't have access to, so would be building from web searches, and from other pages on the wiki.

No idea about Christmas Flander's Home.  Not even sure about the ones I made today.  I'm going off the info on the Winter 2015 Event, since I didn't have the buildings, and therefore didn't see the Facades in my store.  Our old info had Christmas Wolfcastle's Mansion instead of the correct "Christmas Mansion", that I saw in my store.  That's one example of several I saw and created back at the beginning of the event.  I didn't do the few I created in the last few days earlier, because I didn't have them in my store, so a) didn't have even a temporary Menu image to grab, and b) didn't have any real concrete info on name, etc.  Since no one else stepped forward, I've created some with basic info, and I'm relying on other contributors with access to fix them up where I guessed/extrapolated. Since it is easier to edit a page than create from scratch, those are one step closer.

Basically, I was making the links and pages together, in small batches.  If I get an itch to do the rest, I'll do them at the same time.  Until then, not good to make red links, and then not create the pages.

    • good point. i've created stub pages for all of the others, with good images, and fixed up the images for the ones you did. if one of us doesn't get around to filling/correcting the infoboxes, someone else will.

    • I hope I can go through them, I have some even bigger images for many of them and for the others I have images with smaller file-size, but identical quality.

  • Some of the characters have been confirmed just not the price/obtain. Why did you take away the Unreleased content?

...A hacker? I don't think we should rely on hackers for upcoming content, as EA sometimes change things in the game without notice. That inludes images.

    • I don't rely on them, they just supply me with images. Even though it may be changed, it is still interesting to see what it could be. Like this one...

  • Hey Dougie76, thanks for all the work with the recent event and adding images, infos and pages!, Much appreciated with one admin unable to help for a small while.

Something I'd like to ask: What was the quest name for obtaining the Tasteful Festive Flanders House? Do you know? I have some dialogue for it but can't remember the name of it.

      Loading editor
    • "The Proclamation of Decoration" was the mini-quest with 30s Decorate His House quest for Ned.  I saw "Decorate His House" and thought captial His, so church, if that's referring to Jesus?  and it was just his own house. just seemed so Simpsons...  If I've got screen shots of the dialong and stuff, they are buried in all the SH2 stuff, which means I don't have the dialogue without lots of searching.  I assume the quest is still active, and happens before the  Homer aggressive decorate his house tacky Decoration Inflation questline.  Might be good to all those on one page?  Faux seemed to think one-off quests didn't need a full page (so include as part of the item that triggered it).

I am definitely out of my league on Quest pages.  Especially digging through all the images for the quotes. Almost thinking we need to put together pages/categories for different character's icons.

        Loading editor
    • Thanks for that. Yes, maybe Proclamation Of Decoration should be on the...page with Homer decorating his own house. Some quest pages do that; have a different named task within a quest because it relates to the bigger quest.

Again, thanks for your hard work! :)

Edit: I've done what I can, mainly the prologue stuff I know, that's all. :(
But the quest had to be added on the wiki, so that's done at least...

  • Cool, another 100+ edits ... that will have to be undo for the majority.

Character Groups have been made in order to concentrate tasks from tasks for a group instead of what you did last night. The A Perfectly Cromulent Job Pt. 11 & 13 are the kind of tasks that needs to be added (I just did) to the correct CG's page which is in this case, the Springfielders Character Group.

So I'm sorry to ask, but all the jobs you individually added last night for these 2 parts have to be undo, and please do it before making other edits (beside SH2). If you're not sure for future massive additions please ask before acting out.

    Thx.

PS: As soon as there's more than 2 or 3 characters involved in a task, a CG probably have to be created, with some exceptions. Like I said, please ask me to be sure...

    • Just finished reading the Things to do thread on NoWay's wall.  Lots of discussion on new standards, how you want to do things.  It will take a while for me to digest it all, will be rereading it a few times.  I'll be leaving Infoboxes off my list completely unless I hit the page for something else.

Anyway, part of that discussion was character groups.  Most of the QB job tabbers entries are group quest stuff (Go to Stu's Disco, Eat at Luigi's, etc.)  So until I am at the point where I can create the category pages, put all the links in and stuff like you did for Shop Till You Drop bits, I'm going to hold off doing a pass on putting blind comments on the quests, and moving them into the XX QB tabs.  I thought that would be some nice low hanging fruit I could hit that would teach me more about how things are done, but I'm seeing it isn't so low hanging a fruit.  Once all the categories are done (read: when I learn how to do and do them, with good feedback), I can do one big pass, removing them and separating the QB jobs into the Event/Level/Promo/etc stuff.

BTW, what is Springfield Heights Chapter 2?  Special Update?  Was thinking of putting in the Lodge a Complaint Smithers quests on his page (already have them coded up) using TabBegin|Springfield Heights Quest Based Jobs|SH QB, similar to Money Mountain (and have a column for the currency cost), but if chapter 2 is a Special Update, it could just go into the Special's QB tab (which is where I'm going to put them for now, since that isn't making a new tab name or format).

BTW, the Mr. Burns Money Mountain quests don't give Cash as reward, but has a cost of that given Cash.  And I didn't combine the columns (double checked, thought I'd made a mistake), so I was thinking of breaking that out into separate Cost and Rewards columns.  I'm going to work on his page anyway, since the Temp quest tabber still has rewards in 2 columns.

    • You read the entire thread?!?! Holy Cow, you must have more time on your hands than I can imagine. XD

Springfield Heights Expansion (chapter two) is a content update, if anything. For jobs involved with Chapter 2's quests, I would but it under QB as per normal, but FauxCerf will be better at clarifying that.

That thread...I still can't believe you've read the entire thing! There's probably as many messages there as there are things on the To-Do list. :)

    • I saw in one edit summary you were unsure about the "Release Date" in the infobox on Frankie the Squealer's page. As far as I know, Frankie is the only one with that on his infobox; it may be connected with the fact he is unlocked with a quest (Frankie the Politician), which uses "Release Dates" in their infoboxes.

Gina Vendetti doesn't use it on her page and she was released after Frankie, so I wouldn't say that it is necessary for the infoboxes of any other characters. But you may want to ask NoWay or FauxCerf just in case.

    • I've seen it on one more character so far, also a Wiseguy, Johnny Tightlips.  He was released at the same time, so probably done same way.

  • Hi,

please stop adding "nowiki" brackets when you make edits. They don't belong where you putted them. { {PAGENAME} } is used to take place of the name of the page where it's used.

    Thx

    • Ok. I've see stuff like Much Ado About Muffins (quest chain) that spawns when you finish building Much Ado About Muffins, etc.  I've realized when looking at pages where something is different to put a comment before doing something, b/c what I'm seeing may have been the way things were done way back when, but not how they are done now.  Like the Character grouping for quests....  All that time I spent correcting the various entries for "Attend Court Hearing" a while back, which I didn't get bad feedback on and therefore made some assumptions, which culminated in the Shop Till You Drop fiasco.  The silver lining to that day was I got to see some examples of the various new QB sections, and which ones qualify and where to put the blind comment, so it wasn't a total waste.  I couldn't have picked a worse time to time it though.

    • Yes, sorry for that "Attend Court Hearing". I'll return on that later because I've to go for now.
