Yard Sale 2014 is classed as a promotional, even though it isn't promoting an episode, I have posted on the Template talk page, but I doesn't seem like anyone ever checks it. As well as this, Springfield Heights Expansion (chapter two) is classed as an expansion, when it isn't, it's just a generic content up date. Also, "Promotion" and "Promotional" mean the same thing, so why do both exist?
I have posted on the Template talk page, but I doesn't seem like anyone ever checks it.
Usually I patrol recent changes, but recently I don't have enough time, otherwise I would have seen it.
The promotion vs. promotional thing has just grown that way. Originally there were only promotionals. Then EA released several sale-like content updates and called them promotions and so we stuck with that name. We could rename "promotional" to "episode tie-in" or something similar, but I don't see what we would gain from it.
Regarding Yard Sale/Season 24 Finale: I didn't play in 2013, so I'm probably not the one to best judge it, but I would rather classify it as a promotion. All of the content seems to be taken from older episodes. It would be interesting to know the title of the store-category (if something like that existed back then). Whatever it was, that would be the correct title for the page (and the link).
Chapter 2 of Springfield Heights is unique, because it is the only update ever released specifically for an expansion. Level 43 was somehow similar, but still brought a new level. Having a category with only one (or even two) item(s) simply doesn't make sense. If EA does that again in the future, we will need to think about the classification again.
I was also unaware of Asteria52's retirement.
The welcoming message was the reason you posted on Asteria's wall, wasn't it? The message should always come from the most recently active admin, but unfortunately it hasn't worked correctly in months.
Sorry I'm late to respond, I meant to a couple days ago.
I do agree that the promotional/promotion thing is confusing. The way we used to do it was to separate events into a major and minor category. Major events were ones that came with it's own splashscreen, while minor events were just things that didn't tie in with episodes. And then promotionals were obviously updates that tied in with episodes. So you could go back to that system.
Some of these promotions just look like Gil's Deal which are just listed there.
In any case what I would do is rename the promotions as minor events. Just to limit the confusion. But it's the current admins' call.
Fwiw, the promotion vs promotional thing confused me too, mainly due to the very similar names, but I eventually discovered the pattern. I like Asteria's suggestion to just go back to major/minor events (which seems to have been lost in the shuffle) to keep things simple. If we dont want to go that far, I say we rename Promotionals, and episode tie-ins seems obvious enough.
There is quiet a difference between events (minor ones) and promotions. Events always come with new content and questline(s). Promotions in contrast mostly bring back old content, with one or two new items at most. They are rather like sales where items aren't necessarily cheaper...
However I see the difficulty of the similar names and also the problem that they aren't 100% classifiable as one or another in some cases.
The game treats those as promotions, not events.
Well, if the game does so, then only because of the fact that the word "promotion" was used in the store-category-title for a few of them. "event" in contrast is never used for Events. So the page could also be called "End of School Promotion Event", "Oktoberfest Promotion! Event",...
Honestly I'm not sure about this one, neither solution seems optimal to me.
may I ask you why you removed the "Highlight" on my blog ? Blog that was made to help our members dealing with this specific act of the event. Blog that has been welcomed by everyone. Are you playing the game again so are aware of the big mess EA left us at this point of the event ? And since that blog has been made, the questions and complaints have been reduced by 80%.
On the other side, are you still "enjoying" your new job ? Are you still working 80 hours/week ? ;o))
I thought I should come back to you since it seems a little odd to me that you closed that thread without a word. If you don't want to give us these user-rights, just say so. I can't speak for FauxCerf, but personally, I would be fine with that too. Not hearing anything is what kind of hurts, and honestly I wouldn't have expected that.
So I hope that you're still receiving E-Mails from your Message-Wall and that you will get back to us. Thanks!
NoWay lost his 200 days in a row badge by 3-4 days for not making any edits since the activities didn't need him to react or answer anyone. It was between 2 upgrades that are now comming every 2 weeks. I've lost my 100 days badge by 2-3 days also by 7 minutes for the same reasons and for the second time. In other words, I'm still tinking we're doing a very good job on this wiki and that you should take a few minutes to do what have to be done to name us bureaucrats since real life still allow us to run the site.
I wanted NoWay to be the first one to post on your wall since his english is better than mine but I haven't seen anyone complaining about mine. I would understand that you forgot that "rendez-vous" on the tuesday following August 27th. It is not like if we were constantly comming back to you regarding that but like I said, I do think it is time to make that mood.
Thanks in advance, not only for both of us, but for the communauty for which you did a fantastic job when you were able to ;o))
Oh, wow I forgot all about that, or I thought that I did it already. I closed that thread because of the random admin requests. I got promoted right after that trip and now I work like 90 hour weeks. And I have to do this from my computer because my phone refuses to let me post messages on this wiki.
I do feel I should say that just because you post everyday doesn't mean that you are actually good at it, though as far as I can tell you guys are. Those badges don't really have anything to do with this
But in any case you can have the bureaucrat rights. This way you can promote people to admins if you want, but I don't recommend have a ton of people with admin powers.
None, bad english, I meant, NoWay had already get in touch with the Wiki's staff in order to have 3 other site related to TSTO but that was kinda "dead". He was able to do it but I'm sure it would have been easier with the bureaucrat rights. Anyways, he will be able to explain it better than me tomorrow when he'll see he's been promoted too ;o))
And that's only one exemple. To be honest, he's the man, I've really enough of my admin's rights ;o))
Oh, wow I forgot all about that, or I thought that I did it already. [...] But in any case you can have the bureaucrat rights
Thanks for the promotion. And also sorry for the misunderstanding!
I got promoted right after that trip and now I work like 90 hour weeks
Congrats! But wow, 90 hours is really tough!
What restrictions were there?
Well, no "severe" restrictions.
Now withh bureaucrat rights I can temporarily promote my bot each time it needs admin rights (e.g. when editing blog posts). I didn't feel 100% comfortable with it having permanent admin rights anyway. There has been a major security issue where most of the active accounts on one of the top wikis have been compromised and used to post spam and vandalism. All of that was caused by a single admin which got hacked. And bot edits won't show up neiter in Special:WikiActivity, nor in Special:Recentchanges and thus won't be seen immediately.
It also might be useful to be able to name a few rollbacks in case we get more spam/vandalism again. It's been really quiet lately, but there has been way more, and FauxCerf and I really can't cover 24/7 all the time.
So, umm, haven't really been active on the Wiki over the past month, but I see you've logged in a couple of times since your last actual edit. Are you not going to be an active editor anymore? There's a lot of work to be done and could have really used your help. Still could use your help actually.
