Death is a limited-time character that was released on October 18, 2016, as part of the Treehouse of Horror XXVII Event. He was the seventh and final prize to be won in the event's Act 2.

He was re-released on January 23, 2018 as part of Bart Royale 2018 Event in the Doomsday Mystery Box. He returned on October 3, 2018 during the Treehouse of Horror XXIX Event as a possible prize in the THOH Mystery Box.

On December 11, 2019, at the beginning of the Abe's in Toyland 2019 Event, Death became a free character given to a player at the start of Abe's in Toyland Intro.
