The Daily Challenges System was introduced permanently on February 4, 2016, replacing the Daily Play Combo. While previous major events had used a similar system, the permanent version introduced replacing a challenge for a different one, and offered various permanent Currencies instead of decorations or limited time crafting event currencies. Challenges can be checked at the Big Box or by tapping the button on the top right of the screen.
The Daily Challenges System becomes available when the player reaches level 8, and completes the Fresh Off the Donut Truck questline.
About
Everyday at 8am UTC, a new challenge is available, with a maximum of uncompleted 3 challenges at a time. Each challenge rewards currency, either Donuts, Cash, the Springfield Heights Currencies, or XP Multiplier. Tasks that reward Springfield Heights and Krustyland currencies take place in those expansions. The player can only exchange one challenge for a new random per day.
Completing various numbers of challenges rewards extra Donuts. The amount of challenges and the number of donuts can be seen at the top of the Daily Challenges Screen.

After completing a number of Daily Challenges, the player can earn bonus donuts. How many tasks are needed, and the reward is displayed at the top of the Daily Challenges screen. Certain bonus prizes have a cooldown, which means once they have been completed, the player won't be able to get them again for a certain amount of time.
The selected bonus prize is random. Only the first time during the Fresh Off the Donut Truck questline it is guaranteed to be the challenge rewarding 3 Donuts for 5 days.
There is one unreleased bonus-prize. It requires the player to have at least app-version 4.19.0, which has not been published as of February 21, 2016.
